Networking

Create a networking profile to appear in the attendee directory and use networking tools.

Create your networking profile

A networking profile makes you visible in the attendee directory and unlocks networking tools for the current event.

  1. Open Networking.
  2. Use My networking profile from the profile-photo menu, or complete the form shown when the page asks for it.
  3. Optionally add your profile photo, introduction, job title, company, topic interests, and what you would like to meet people about.
  4. Check the option to show your networking profile and attendee directory entry to other registered attendees.
  5. Save the profile and confirm that the rest of the Networking page becomes available.

Notes

  • Opting in to networking also opts you in to attendee visibility for the event.
  • If you do not want to finish the profile yet, use the VSI logo in the top-left corner to return to the main event page.
  • You can return to My networking profile later to update your text, tags, or photo.
  • After setup, the Networking Help item can show the contact-list guidance again if you previously hid it.

Find attendees and exchange contact details

Networking cards show attendee details that are visible to you, including profile photos, labels, topic interests, and meeting interests.

  1. Open Networking to see connection requests, contacts and groups, suggestions, and other visible attendees.
  2. Open an attendee row or card to review their public details.
  3. Use Connect when you want a mutual networking connection.
  4. Use the QR icon in the top bar when you want to show your contact QR code or scan someone else's.
  5. After exchanging contact details, add a private note from the contact view when you want to remember context for later.

Notes

  • Private notes are only for you. They are not shared with the other attendee.
  • People appear in the Networking contact list after they publish their networking profile.
  • Accepted buddy matches and accepted networking connections also create contact exchanges.

Request a meeting

Meeting requests are available for accepted connections and use the event agenda so both people can see available time.

  1. Open the attendee's networking page or card.
  2. Choose Request meeting.
  3. Enter the meeting title, description, duration, and location.
  4. Choose the event day, then click or tap an available time in the agenda grid.
  5. Review the selected start and end time, then send the proposal.
  6. Watch the chat thread for acceptance, decline, or a proposed different time.

Notes

  • Your personal agenda and the other attendee's busy time are both considered when choosing a slot.
  • Accepted meetings appear in Agenda.

Use in-app messaging

In-app messages live on the Networking conversation pages and may also trigger browser push notifications when recipients have registered a device.

  1. Open Networking.
  2. Choose a contact or group from the conversation list.
  3. Type your message in the message box and send it.
  4. Use the profile or group menu on a conversation page for details, meeting requests, or group actions that are available there.

Notes

  • Direct messages require a connection.
  • Vernon mirrors system event notifications, not ordinary chat, connection, or meeting alerts. When event staff are available, Vernon can also receive questions.
  • Private group chats can include attendees connected to the person adding them.
  • Open group chats can be joined freely by networking users.

Join a session chat

Session chats are open group chats tied to a session and are linked from agenda and session cards for registered attendees.

  1. Open the agenda or the session detail page.
  2. Use the chat balloon link on the session card or session page.
  3. Publish your networking profile first if the app asks for it.
  4. Join the chat and use it from the Networking conversation page.

Notes

  • Session chats are available after the agenda is published and after a speaker has created or reopened the chat.
  • BoF creators can start a linked BoF chat from the Birds-of-a-Feather page while event chat features are enabled, and signed-up attendees can open it there once it exists.
  • Before joining, the app tells you that session chat contents may be shared with the speaker or organizer after the event.
